Baku weather: What's in store for the Azerbaijan GP?

After a four-week break in proceedings, the 2023 F1 season will get back underway this weekend with the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

A mixture of tight and twisty sections interspersed with more open straights at Baku City Circuit can pose a challenge for the drivers and teams, but can the weather also throw in an additional factor to consider?

A warm weekend ahead in Baku

It looks set to be a warm and sunny weekend in Baku, with eight to nine hours of sunshine forecast for the opening day of running on Friday, though some clouds could appear.

Many of the teams and drivers will perhaps be relieved to hear that this does not look likely to turn into rainfall.

Temperatures will rise to 22 or 23 degrees Celsius during the afternoon, with Friday's qualifying session set to take place at the warmest time of the day.

Similar temperatures are in store for Saturday, which will feature the debut Sprint Shootout before the Sprint later on. There will be a moderate breeze from south to south-east, and the sunshine will be interspersed with cloud.

On Sunday, there is the possibility of a shower occurring locally, but the chances of this falling over the circuit during the race are very low.

Race day will be the hottest day of the weekend, with temperatures set to reach up to 26 degrees Celsius, meaning that track temperatures will also be higher than in previous days.

Super League chief claims 20 clubs have agreed to join project

The co-founder of A22 Sports Management, the group behind the Super League project , has claimed that 20 clubs have already given their approval to joining the new com Pet ition if it ever gets off the ground. Despite widespread criticism from fans across the globe, A22 continue to try and bring the Super League to life and found renewed hope last month when a court ruled that neither FIFA nor UEFA had the power to punish any teams who wished to take part - one of the most severe deterrents from the initial storm back in April 2021.
