Mets Betting Preview
New York moved to 33-38 after losing two of three to St. Louis. The Mets dropped the final two Games of their home stand, and they’ll look to prevent another lengthy skid this week in Houston. The New York offense is scoring 3.98 runs per Game, while batting .240, with a .304 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 4.78 ERA, with a 1.38 WHIP. Pete Alonso returned in the series finale against the Cardinals, and that will be much needed for this matchup with Houston, as he leads NYM in home runs (22) and RBI (49). Brandon Nimmo plated a pair of runs in Game three versus STL, and leads the team in batting (.287) and hits (77), with 32 RBI. Starling Marte has collected a hit in eight of the last nine Games, and he’s hitting .255. Francisco Lindor hit his 13th HR on Sunday, and he’s second on the team in RBI as well with 45.
Max Scherzer (5-2, 4.45 ERA, 69 Ks) will get the ball for New York. The veteran pitcher had another tough outing in last week’s Subway Series matchup with the Yankees, allowing six runs in 3.1 innings pitched. Scherzer also struggled in his last road spot in Atlanta, giving up five runs to the Braves in 5.2 innings, so it will be interesting to see how he handles this Houston lineup. Scherzer’s three outings prior to this two-game funk resulted in quality starts, while he’s cleared eight strikeouts in three of his last four appearances, so he’s a bit conflicting here.

Astros Betting Preview
Houston enters at 39-33 after being swept by Cincinnati. The Astros let the Reds come into town and take all three games last weekend, and they’ll look for much better results on Monday. The Houston offense is scoring 4.66 runs per game, while batting .246, with a .314 on-base percentage. The pitching staff carries a 3.32 ERA, with a 1.25 WHIP. Kyle Tucker has multiple hits in four of the last five games, and he now leads the Astros in hits (72), with splits of .285/9/41. Jose Abreu has recorded a hit in seven of the last ten games, and he’s totaled 33 RBI for the season. There’s still no word of a return for Yordan Alvarez headed into this interleague set, and his absence has been one of the biggest factors behind this skid.
Hunter Brown (6-3, 3.35 ERA, 79 Ks) will get the ball for Houston. The second-year pitcher stopped a two-Game skid by shutting Washington down at home, tossing seven scoreless innings to earn his sixth win of the season. Brown’s coming along this season in Houston’s rotation, and after clearing eight strikeouts in four of his last six Games, he may be a name to watch prop wise.
New York vs Houston Trends
NY Mets are 31-40 against the spread this season, with a 37-29 O/U record. Houston is 33-39 ATS this year, with a 27-36-2 over/under record.
Corey’s Free Pick
New York has underwhelmed mightily this season, but Houston hasn’t been far off after a dismal stretch of play. The Astros aren’t having the same success without Yordan Alvarez in the lineup, but with an inconsistent Max Scherzer going, this feels like a game they can steal to stop the skid. Scherzer hasn’t pitched that well on the road this season, and the ‘Stros should be able to find some production at the plate to get back into the win column Monday. Back Houston for this interleague matchup.
