Best NBA Player Props Today - October 27
With the opening week in full swing, we get another busy slate of NBA action tonight — and that means a stack of NBA odds to assess and dissect.
It’s still early days, but plenty of teams are still looking for their first win or searching to put a new identity in place, and it only takes a few losses for some panic to set in.
For my Friday NBA picks, I’m zeroing in on a trio of talented guards — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Desmond Bane and LaMelo Ball — who are all poised for career years.

NBA player props for October 27
Prop bet #1: SGA all the way
If the Oklahoma City Thunder are going to make their move in the West and land the playoff spot that’s become one of the trendiest NBA picks, a lot rests on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s shoulders.
SGA is already on the superstar fast track, making the All-NBA First Team last season. He’s still only 25 and he’s coming off an outstanding summer with Team Canada at the FIBA World Cup. This year, he could emerge as a bona fide MVP candidate.
The early signs are promising. He shredded the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday for 31 points, on 12-for-18 shooting with his usual mix of drives and pull-up jumpers. His 10 assists were just as encouraging, and that’s an area where SGA has room for growth — he averaged 5.5 dimes a game last year but has flashed solid playmaking skills.
A tougher test awaits tonight against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but Gilgeous-Alexander has proven himself as a top-tier scorer and his duel with Donovan Mitchell should be must-watch TV. With the Cavs’ strong interior defense, putting the ball in SGA’s hands will be even more pivotal.
At 6-foot-6, he’s also a solid rebounding guard (4.8 boards a night last year) and I’m choosing to target points + rebounds + assists for Shai Gilgeous-Alexadner odds in this Friday battle rather than narrowing it to his points prop. Plus, with his ability to get to the free-throw line — almost 11 attempts per game in the 2022/23 season — there are always some easy points to boost his stat line.
SGA is the real deal and I expect him to show that once again as the Thunder visit Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Prop bet #2: Bane brings the pain
These are challenging times for the Memphis Grizzlies in a loaded Western Conference. With Ja Morant serving a 25-Game ban, Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke out injured and Tyus Jones now in Washington, it’s reasonable to worry about their chances of avoiding the play-in.
In the meantime, it leaves Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. as the two pillars to keep this Memphis team afloat — and I’m jumping on a Bane prop for the Grizzlies’ home opener tonight against the Denver Nuggets.
Bane got off to a flier with 31 points on 11-for-22 shooting and five triples on Wednesday, and I love the Over on his points prop again here. The Grizzlies fell in a 111-104 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday despite Bane being a +7 in his 36 minutes.
Most of all, it’s the volume. Bane is in line for 20+ shot attempts every night while Morant is unavailable. He put up 21 points a night last season on 16 shot attempts, and he’s showing he can handle the uptick in touches so far.
Slowing down the Nuggets’ high-powered offense is a tall task — and Memphis will likely need a steady diet of Bane jumpers to keep pace. When Marcus Smart is on the bench, Bane will have even more opportunities to run the offense and get to his spots.
He’s now the clear No.1 option in this Grizzlies offense and there’s every chance he makes another leap this season. Give me these Desmond Bane odds.
Desmond Bane prop: Over 24.5 points (-104 at Unibet)
Prop bet #3: Melo-ing out
The Hornets have widely been penciled in for the Eastern Conference basement this season, but what if Charlotte finally gets some good injury luck? What if Ball plays more than the 36 Games he managed last year?
There’s talent on this Hornets roster and Ball is the key to maximizing it. Despite shooting poorly (4-for-15), he was instrumental in Charlotte’s win over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday, finishing with 10 assists.
And it’s LaMelo Ball odds for assists that I’m zoned in on for tonight’s matchup with the Detroit Pistons. He’s in an elite tier of NBA passers with unique vision and, with athletic finishers around him, I expect him to better his 8.4 assists average from last year.
There was promising chemistry in the way he created buckets for Mark Williams and P.J. Washington around the rim on Wednesday, and he’ll have the chance to dominate tonight against an inexperienced Pistons backcourt.
The Hornets’ chances of cracking the next stage of this ultra-slow rebuild hinge on Ball staying healthy and playing at an All-Star level. So far, so good — and I’m predicting another big playmaking effort from Ball tonight.
